The Economist recently published a special report on the human genome.
The take-away from the report can be summarized as follows: it's still early.
Personal genomics--and particularly predictive medicine--are considered a bit too expensive for the level and quality of information they provide.
In addition, the uncertainty surrounding the information provided by consumer companies providing services in the field are an issue.
However, these current hurdles are likely to abate in the relatively near-term as the technology is refined.
